Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah on Tuesday accepted the resignation of B Sreeramulu from his Assembly membership, which he had submitted last month unhappy over the denial of a ministerial berth to him.

Sulking over the denial of ministerial berth following his indictment in a Lokayukta report on illegal mining, Sreeramulu, a close associate of the Reddy brothers, submitted his resignation on September 4.

Janardhana Reddy, a former minister, is presently in jail in Andhra Pradesh in connection with an illegal mining case. Assembly Secretary S B Patil said that the resignation of Sreeramulu who has resigned from his assembly membership was accepted on Tuesday.

The resignation was not accepted for over a month, which had come under flak from opposition Congress and the JD(S). Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda told reporters that Sreeramulu’s resignation has been accepted as efforts to persuade him to continue as MLA went in vain.
