SRTEPC to hold 50th anniversary in Surat

The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) has selected Surat for its Golden Jubilee Year celebrations.

SRTEPC was set up by the Union government.

SRTEPC chairman Shantibhai Bachkaniwala said, "Surat is one of the most important centres for production and exports of synthetic textiles with annual exports of over Rs 950 crore. Due to the fact that Surat has a lion's share in the synthetic exports as well as that majority of the SRTEPC members are from Surat, the city has been chosen to hold the council's Golden Jubilee Year celebrations."

The Council is yet to decide the date of the seminar and other programmes.

"We plan to invite two technical experts in the field of textile production from South Korea and Taiwan to visit Surat and study the existing pattern of production and technological improvements. The experts will spend approximately one week in the city and visit various manufacturing units to make an assessment of the status and the requirements," Bachkaniwala said.

"A seminar will be held on the concluding day during which the experts will convey their findings an make suggestions for improvement in products mix to cater to the requirements of overseas buyers," he said.

The Council will also organise an exhibition-cum-buyer-seller meet as part of the celebrations.

"The exhibition cum buyer-seller meet will be a golden opportunity. We will not only invite buyers, agents and resourcing agents abroad, but also a large number of garment manufacturers, buying houses, as well as fashion designers from all over the country," Bachkaniwala said.

The council has also constituted exports awards to honour and encourage outstanding exporters of Surat.

The council plans to invite Union textiles minister Shankarsinh Vaghela as the chief guest for the award distribution programme.

"The date of organising the seminar and other programmes has not been decided as yet. We will talk with the foreign experts as well as the Union minister and finalise a suitable time-table for the programmes," Bachkaniwala said.
