Karnataka today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction one unit of NSG, three battalions of Indian Reserve Police and an Indo-Tibet Border Protection Force to step up security in the state in the aftermath of terror attacks in Mumbai.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister on his visit to the city today, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa also sought establishment of 18 coastal check-posts and 33 outposts to maintain vigil on the 300 kms coastline.
Karnataka also wanted the Centre to provide two helicopters with day and night operational capacity for surveillance and emergency rescue operations and increase in the cadre strength of IPS by 30 officers.
Yeddyurappa sought allocation of Rs 20 crore for providing GPS facility to 3,000 fishing boats and related infrastructure along the coast line. The chief minister pointed out that Karnataka has vital installations, including IT companies and MNCs, HAL, ISRO, NAL and IISc.
The Prime Minister, he said, had agreed to consider the demands sympathetically.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today arrived here to inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the country's premier scientific research organisation, the Indian Institute of Science.
Singh, who arrived at the Yelanka Airforce Station, was received by Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, the leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Mallikarjun Kharge, KPCC President R V Deshpande and its Working President D K Shivakumar.
