The State Bank of India has agreed to sanction crop loan to farmers following an agitation at the Patanbori branch in Yavatmal.

"The SBI will now disburse a loan amount of Rs 20,000 per hectare to cotton growers and Rs 15,000 to soyabean growers which the bank had earlier refused due to alleged paucity of funds," Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti President Kishore Tiwari, in a release today.

A large number of farmers and members of women self help group had gathered outside the Patanbori branch of SBI in Yavatmal district yesterday.

On one hand the State and Central government are keen on saving farmers from distress like situation in the suicide-affected region of Vidarbha and on the other the public sector banks were not disbursing loans to needy farmers, Tiwari alleged.
