The Gujarat government has converted all of the 749 Pundit Deendayal Grahak Bhandaras (DGB) in the Junagadh district to the model fair price shops, where necessary consumer goods including gas cylinder, mobile recharging, tooth paste, soaps, washing powder and cosmetics items etc will be sold to the rural community.
In a written reply to a query raised in the state assembly on Wednesday, the minister of civil supplies, Narottam Patel informed that in Junagadh district, all of the 749 Pundit Deendayal Grahak Bhandaras have been converted into model fair price shops, for which the state government has been paying the margin money of Rs 15,000 per shop.
"The daily necessities and cosmetic items that are normally sold in the cities, will now be available for the rural masses at their Grahak Bhandara shops. The government has decided to convert them into model fair price shops so as to transform them into small malls for rural masses," the minister said. He also mentioned that the model shops had increased the income of the owners by Rs 3,000 - Rs 6,000 per month.
