To compensate losses of the state power distribution companies, the state government today decided to enhance power subsidies to domestic, powerloom and low-tension agriculture consumers. The power tariff subsidy bill of the state government is likely to swell to Rs 1433 crore from existing Rs 1370 crore.
The domestic consumers will get 90 paise per unit subsidy up to 30 units consumption, the powerloom consumers will get Rs 1.25 subsidy for 25 HP consumption while high tension agri-consumers will get Rs 1.75 subsidy on 300 unit consumption, Rs 2.05 on 301-500, Rs 1.90 on 500 and above. The temporary power connection consumer category will get Rs 1.90 per unit subsidy.
“The subsidy is applicable for the defined consumers with effect from April 2010 to 31 May 2010 on previous tariff and also on tariff effective from June 1, 2010 decided by state power regulatory commission on 18 May 2010.
Further the cabinet also decided to bring and ordinance to control soaring cotton prices in the state. The cotton will now be sold at Rs 650 and Rs 750 per 750 gram. “The prices of cotton seed are at Rs 1,400-1,500 and state farmers are facing shortage of seeds. The ordinance will check the fuelling prices of cotton seed,” Narottam Mishra, cabinet minister and government spokesperson said.
