The Maharashtra government will set up 240 power plants energised through hot water springs, 250 solar cookers, 200 photo voltaic lamps, five bio-gas plants to be run on solid waste, five windmills for irrigating water and three pilot solar parks during the current fiscal.
These projects are currently in the implementation stage under the Integrated Rural Energy Conservation Programmed (IREPP) in 37 tehsils and are sponsored by the Union department of non-conventional sources of energy.
Under the IREPP, the power requirement are sought to be met through non-conventional sources of energy that include the use of generating sets that are run on hot water springs, solar cookers, photo voltaic domestic and street lighting, monitoring of the wind power.

The salaries to the manpower employed for these projects would be paid by the Union government.
A pilot project has already been commissioned at Jawhar in Thane district under the IREPP programme.
