State plans to buy 850 Mw power

The Karnataka government plans to purchase about 850 Mw of power at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore as a short term measure to tide over the shortage in the state, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said.

The power will be purchased from NTPC, Jindal Power and Power Trading Corporation for a period of two months from March 1 to April 30, he told reporters, here today.

During the month of February the daily requirement of power has gone up to 134 million units. This is when compared to 120 million units consumed per day in February 2009, seeing a growth of about 11 per cent.
