The state police department would soon come out with a draft to keep a check on the private security system in the city.
“Private security forces are five times higher than the general police and are being deployed at shopping malls, industries, and other places,” AK Khan, commissioner of Police, said. He was speaking at ‘Hyderabad a secure, safe and attractive destination for industries,’ organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fapcci).
Private security forces would be trained and certified, he said. The general police would also be assigned to instruct them.
An industrial task force had been set up to provide security for industrial units in the city.
Fapcci urged the police to appoint a proper chief security information officer, install more CCTV cameras and provide smart card for a better security blanket.
Fapcci president Shekhar Agarwal sought an integrated security system for the city.
Stating that the police department had taken up a number of initiatives, Cyberabad police commissioner Dwarka Tirumala Rao said, they had formed a Cyberabad city police council and set up five permanent check posts besides deploying two commando teams in the area.
Hyderabad reported only 330 crimes per 100,000 population in 2009, which is one eighth of the New York city, where 2,500 crimes per 100,000 population happened in 2008.
Khan said the only disturbed areas were from Tarnaka to Habsiguda. For that small area, the entire city should not be affected.
