Gujarat will soon become the petroleum and gas centre of the country, state chief minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.

He said this at a meeting organised at Hazira near Surat to unveil the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal of Shell Group of Companies.

Assuring Shell authorities that a 1,200 km-long gas pipeline network will be put in place before Shell begins commercial distribution of LNG, Modi said that a pipeline has already been laid over 600 km.
