Orissa is set to get 1755 MW additional power by 2013 as state share from six independent coal-based power plants that are expected to go on stream by then and also from expansion projects of Central PSU- National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The state's power availability is expected to reach 4455 MW by 2013, higher than the power demand of 3726 MW projected by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the state's energy minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak informed the state assembly. Currently, the state's power availability is around 2700 MW.
The six IPPs that are scheduled to commission their coal-fired power plants by 2013 include Maa Durga Power Company Ltd, GMR Kamalanga Energy Ltd, Ind-Barath Energy (Utkal) Ltd, Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd, Monnet Power Company Ltd and Lanco Babandh Power Ltd with a total envisaged capacity of 7050 MW. The state's share from these power stations is pegged at 1200.5 MW of which the net availability will be 939 MW.
Maa Durga Power Company will commission its two 60 MW units at Cuttack by July 2012. GMR Kamalanga Energy Ltd is expected to put on stream four 350 MW units, totaling to 1400 MW at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district by November 2012.
Ind-Barath which has proposed 1360 MW at Sahajbahal near Jharsuguda has targeted to reach full commissioning stage by December 2013. Similarly, Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd's 1800 MW power station proposed at Derang near Angul, is set to be operational by June 2013.
Monnet Power's 1050 MW (2x525) station proposed at Nisha near Angul is set to be functional from July 2013. Lanco Babandh will commission its first 660 MW unit by July 2013 and another unit of equal capacity by October 2013.
NTPC's expansion projects at its super thermal power stations at Farakka (West Bengal), Karanpur (Bihar), Barh (Bihar)- Stage-I and Stage-II will feed 756 MW to Orissa's grid. This apart, renewable energy sources will chip in 60 MW.
