States Asked To Tap Captive Power Generation

The power ministry has called upon states to overcome the loss of power generation from hydel plants by tapping captive energy sources and rejuvenating idle thermal power plants.

Of the targeted hydel production of 82,800 million units this year, the generation loss on account of the drought is estimated at 24,600 million units, Union power minister Suresh Prabhu told newspersons after a day-long meeting with state ministers today.

Prabhu, however, said the government would be able to overcome the projected loss of hydel production this year.
