The collapse of the western power grid yesterday could well turn out to be a precursor to more such disruptions in the near future.
"The problem of overdrawal by states has been rampant this year and total lack of grid discipline. While hydel power production this year has been nearly 40 per cent below average because of the failed monsoon, may thermal power stations are currently undergoing their annual maintainence," PowerGrid Corporation of India officials said.
