The asset management company proposed by the finance ministry will adopt strategic sales for disinvestment of government equity in public sector undertakings.
Government officials told Business Standard that the asset management company will be distinctly different from the special purpose vehicle originally proposed by Vijay Kelkar, both in its structure and the method followed for privatisation. The Kelkar formula envisaged offloading government equity in PSUs in tranches in the market at an appropriate time.
