After apple and plum, now strawberry wine will add variety to the wines produced by Himachal Pradesh's Horticulture Produce Marketing Corporation (HPMC).

The price for a 750 ml white wine bottle was Rs 200, after a discount of 25 per cent as a promotional offer, HPMC officials said.

The strawberry wine was launched on Wednesday at the HPMC's Jarol Juice and Wine Processing Plant in Mandi district, some 180 km from here.

Officials say this premium strawberry wine has been produced after a year of research by experts and will be called Kalpa wine, named after the tribal town of Kalpa in Kinnaur district in Himachal, which produces some of the best wines in the country.

"We have already received a large order for this new product from the governments of Goa and Kerala," said C R B Lalit, managing director of HPMC.

HPMC has outlets in all metropolitan cities of the country for selling processed and varied fruits, juice and wine products.

"The alcohol content of Kalpa wine is pretty low," added Lalit.
