West Bengal Minister for Transport and Sports Subhas Chakraborty is seriously ill and put on ventilator at a private hospital at Salt Lake today. Hospital sources said his condition was critical and being closely monitored. Chakraborty, who is also a senior CPI(M) leader and close to party patriarch Jyoti Basu, has been ill for some time and was admitted to the hospital on July 27 with neumonitis and low blood platelet count.
The sources said though the platelet count has increased, other parameters have deteriorated. Chakraborty has also been put on dialysis due to low urine output.
