SUCI (Communist), a Trinamool Congress ally in West Bengal, today decided to field candidates against Congress, another Trinamool ally, in 17 Assembly constituencies after criticising the dominant partner for unilaterally allotting only two seats to it.

SUCI (Communist) general secretary Provas Ghosh said the the Trinamool Congress' unilateral decision to allot his party only the two seats which it has been winning in successive elections has put into question "political decency".

"Trinamool Congress' unilateral decision has raised the question of political decency and we have decided to put our candidates against Congress in 17 more constituencies, in addition to the two seats of Joynagar and Kultali," Ghosh said, putting Trinamool in an unenviable situation.

Asked if its decision would cause ripples in the alliance, Ghosh told reporters that the alliance had already become weakened since the last Lok Sabha polls.

"Our alliance with Trinamool has been hanging in the balance for a long time," Ghosh said, asserting that his party would, however, support Trinamool Congress in the fight against CPI-M "misrule".
