Supplyco to build 63 warehouses

The corporation would set up 14 big warehouses at district headquarters and 49 at taluk headquarters

The Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has announced its plans to build 63 warehouses across the state with an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore. In the process, an additional capacity of 300,000 tonne would be created by the state.

Accordingly, it would set up 14 big warehouses at district headquarters and the remaining 49 at taluk headquarters . Warehouses with a capacity of 6,000 tonne would be constructed in districts like Wayanad, Idukki, Alapuzzha, Pathanamthitta and Kasargod . However, warehouses at the taluk level will have a storage capacity of 4,000 tones each.

The state plans to use the facilities for storing various provisional items to be supplied by Supplyco under the public distribution system.
 

The Kerala Industrial Technical Consultancy Organisation has already prepared the detailed plan for the project and the land acquisition is in progress.

According to a Supplyco release, the total storage area in the state would increase to 1.8 million sft.
