Surat Auto Expo generates Rs 100 cr biz in 4 days

According to initial estimates, the Surat Auto Expo has managed to generate business in the range of Rs 75 to Rs 100 crore in four days.

Upbeat from the growing number of luxury car enthusiasts in the region, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) had organised a four-day Auto Expo last week.

"As par initial calculations go, we are estimating that net business generated at the Expo can touch Rs 100 crore. Major premium carmakers like BMW, Audi and Skoda have done good business at the event," informed a senior official at SGCCI.

He explained that a significant portion of the footfall at the Expo actually converted to spot bookings not just for the premium brands but also domestic manufacturers like Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors.

 

At least 70 to 80 Audis and BMWs have been sold at the Expo. Volkswagen and Tata Motors also did brisk business.

According to figures from the organisers, around 50 Volkswagen cars, 50 Tata Nanos, around 55 Tata Aria (the new cross-over vehicle from Tata Motors), 40-50 Tata Manza sedans have been booked at the Expo, besides larger vehicles like Tata Wingers and even a few Tata buses. Hyundai sold 20 sedans including the Sonata, at the exhibition.
