Industrial growth is expected at 7.6 per cent during 2010-11 vis-à-vis 2009-10, according to an economic survey done by the state government.
The survey, released in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, said the prime reason for the handsome growth was the coming up of small and medium sector near rural areas.
During 2010-11, a total 1,980 small and medium-scale industries took shape in the state and attracted an investment of Rs 435.62 crore. More importantly they created 43,300 jobs. While during 2011-12 (till December 2011) the state added another 14,560 small and medium industries with an investment of Rs 250.02 crore. “The new industries created 3,090 jobs,” the survey said. The “state signed deals in 179 cases to attract 1,02,202 crore investment during 2007-2011.”
The tourism industry also posted a handsome growth during 2010-11.
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation registered 17% growth at Rs 70 crore income which rose to impressive Rs 3844 crore till October 2011 with arrival of 3 crore tourists at various tourist destinations of the state.

Similarly mining industry also contributed to 4.31% during 2009-10 and 3.90% during 2010-11. The economic survey said the state though registered a decline in income from main minerals at Rs 10360 crore of production it posted Rs 2122 crore income during the year 2010-11 which is 33.39% higher over the previous year.
The power sale from the state also gone up by 12% as agriculture and allied activities consumed 31% of total power.
The transportation sector also contributed to the state economy within positive territory at 2.98% growth from the previous year (quick estimates). The national highways were 4709 kilometers and state highways were at 10502 kilometer. The state also posted 11.61% growth in vehicle registration during 2010-11 at 7356000 as compared to 6591000 during 2009-10.
