Swine flu: 111 positive cases in TN, four in Puducherry

With five more persons testing positive for swine flu, the total number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu rose to 111, a senior health official said today.
 
Speaking at a workshop for media on A (H1N1) influenza, organised by Press Information Bureau in association with Department of Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu Health Director S Elango said 62 people, who were tested positive for the flu were below the age group of 15.
 
Out of the total tested positive, 55 were treated and discharged. "Remaining were undergoing treatment at various hospitals," he said.
 
He said the Government had intensified its action plan for creating awareness among the people on the Centre's latest guidelines in fighting swine flu. "The Health department has submitted to the government for cash assistance of about Rs seven lakh for taking steps to control and prevent swine flue in the state," Elango said.
 
Health department officials said so far from April 29 to August 7, a total of 3,220 flights and 4,50,498 passengers have been screened at Chennai, Coimbatore and Trichy international airports.
 
Meanwhile, a Puducherry report said the number of H1N1 confirmed cases in the Union Territory rose to four, with one more testing positive at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).
 
Medical Superintendent, JIPMER, Dr A K Das told PTI that Department of Microbiology had collected more than 30 samples and of this four were tested positive.
