Swine flu nationwide toll mounts to 108

The swine flu death toll touched 108 today with two more persons succumbing to the disease.

The two new cases were from Uttarakhand and Gujarat.

In Uttarakhand, Rubina, a resident of Mussoorie, was admitted to Doon hospital on August 30 with flu like symptoms. She died on the same night even as doctors administered flu medicines to her.

State nodal officer for swine flu Pankaj Jain said her test reports have confirmed that she died of the H1N1 virus.

With the confirmation, number of those who died of the flu in Uttarakhand has reached two.

In Gujarat, a 23-year-old pregnant woman succumbed to swine flu at a city-based hospital, taking the statewide toll to nine.

 

Seven-month pregnant Bhavya Dave, who was admitted to SSG hospital on Saturday last, succumbed to H1N1 virus yesterday, hospital superintendent Atul Kumar Saxena said today.

Meanwhile, fresh swine flu cases were reported from across the country, including 37 from Delhi.

"Samples of another 37 cases were reported positive for H1N1 Influenza by the NICD. Total patients admitted till date across all designated hospitals are 722 out of which 661 were treated and discharged," Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said.

Altogether 57 people have died in Maharashtra, 28 in Karnataka, nine in Gujarat, three each in Tamil Nadu and Delhi, two each in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and one each in Goa and Chhattisgarh and two in Uttarakhand.
