Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday asked the UPA government to follow the policy of America and Germany in initiating lawful action to bring back illegal money stashed in Swiss banks.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Dhumal echoed the demand of BJP's prime ministerial candidate LK Advani and asked him to initiate steps to bring back illegal money to the tune of Rs 25-70 lakh crore stashed away in Swiss banks by Indian origin industrialists, middlemen and politicians, a BJP release here said.

“India should follow America and Germany, which have begun lawful action to bring back illegal money kept in the Swiss bank,” the release quoted Dhumal as saying. “India should join the international efforts in this direction,” he said.

Criticising the Congress, Dhumal alleged that the party was not interested in the issue as it wishes to put a veil on major scams that broke out during its rule, including the Bofors scam, HDW submarine controversy, the latest Satyam fraud and the illegal commission of Rs 600 crore in the recent defence deal with Israel.
