Reliance Industries is the only company that submitted an express of interest (EoI) for the proposed city gas distribution (CGD) networks in Tamil Nadu, according to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). L Mansingh, chairperson, PNGRB, said, “We expect more players to enter the fray once we start the bidding process”.

He added in Tamil Nadu the PNGRB identified six cities including Chennai and Coimbatore, to start with. Mansingh did not give the time frame. The proposed investment will be Rs 400-800 crore. For a city like Chennai it will be around Rs 600 crore. To lay an 18-inch pipe for one km, it would cost between Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 4 crore, he noted.
