The government's annual target of constructing 7,000 km of roads will not be achieved this year, Transport Minister Kamal Nath said today.

"We are targeting 7,000 km of road construction. It will not be achieved this year," Nath said on the sidelines of a conference organised by the All India Management Association.

Soon after taking charge of the Ministry, Nath had set a target of completing 20 km of road construction per day taking the annual figure to about 7,000 km per annum.

He said the government is inviting huge number of bids to develop roads in the next 10 months and, therefore, investment for the purpose will not be a hindrance.

He also said the bid documents will be made more attractive for the private sector participation in the development of roads.
