While the tax revenue went up by 13.18 per cent to Rs 6882.28 crore, the non-tax revenue increased by 23.29 per cent.
Tax revenue mainly consists of collections from professional tax, land revenue, stamps and registrations duty, state excise, sales tax, taxes on vehicles, entry tax, taxes and duties on electricity, other levies and duties.
Non-tax revenue, on the other hand consists mainly of interest income, income from dividend, fees collected on education, medical service, water supply and sanitation, housing, forest and wild life, major and medium irrigation, minor irrigation, non-ferrous mining and metallurgical industries.

Though the total collections exceeded the budget estimates for 2007-08 by 4.19 per cent, the internal target fixed by the chief secretary for the last fiscal could not be achieved, official sources said.
The state budget for 2007-08 projected the total tax and non-tax revenue to be around Rs 8196.28 crore but the chief secretary had set an internal target of Rs 9430.7 crore collections during 2007-08.
In the tax revenue, professional taxes contributed Rs 85.22 crore, showing a growth of 17.29 per cent over the previous fiscal. Land revenue collection at Rs 276.14 crore was higher by 24.97 per cent. It exceeded the budget estimates by 31 per cent and the chief secretary's target by 6 per cent.
However, the collections from the stamp and the registration duty witnessed highest growth of 56.56 per cent to reach Rs 405.12 crore. It exceeded the budget estimates by 24 per cent and the internal target by 15 per cent.
The Sales tax collections, a major source of tax revenue of the state government, however, achieved a moderate growth rate of 9.45 per cent in 2007-08. The total collections from sales tax was Rs 4145.13 crore compared to Rs 3764.82 crore during 2006-07.
Similarly, taxes on vehicles increased by 7.58 per cent to Rs 459.22 crore compared to Rs 426.54 crore during the previous fiscal. The entry tax collections increased by 9.1 per cent and collections from taxes and duties on electricity increased by 15.83 per cent.
In the non-tax revenue, the major contributor was the mining revenue, which increased by 20.55 per cent to Rs1121.40 during the last fiscal. It exceeded the budget estimate and the internal target of the department by 7 per cent.
Similarly, the income from dividend increased by about 185 per cent to Rs 140.92 crore pushing the non-tax revenue growth.
