Tax search at Rolta premises

As part of a drive to unearth unaccounted financial transactions, the income tax department today launched searches at nearly 25 premises of leading information technology company Rolta India Ltd including its head office and the residences of some of its directors.
 
Besides the office premises at MIDC in Andheri west, residences of four directors are also being searched apart from premises in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, a senior income tax official said here today.
 
Company officials were, however not available for comment.
 
"We have recovered a lot of documents which are being scrutinised and the searches are likely to continue throughout tomorrow," the official said.
 
Nearly 100 income tax departmental personnel have been deployed in searches which were also carried out on two shipping and clearing agents and a glass factory involved in making ampules, vials and specialised glass works.
 
A shipping agent's Ahmedabad branch office has been searched, the official said, adding that in all more than 30 bank lockers have been sealed in today's searches.
