The Delhi School of Economics Professor TCA Anant is the new Chief Statistician of the country.
Anant will replace the incumbent Pronab Sen, who will be retiring soon after a three-year tenure.
"The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of TCA Anant as the Chief Statistician of India," an official statement said. He will also hold the rank of the Secretary, National Statistical Commission with concurrent charge as Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the statement added.
Anant has done his PhD from Cornell University on Game Theory, Econometrics and Industrial Economics. He also has published many articles on a variety of economic topics.
The appointment would be for five years from the date of assuming office, it added. However, the statement did not state the date on which Anant will assume office.
