Accusing grand alliance parties of back tracking from its promise, BJP Andhra Pradesh unit today alleged that TDP and TRS parties are cheating the people on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana region.
Speaking to reporters here, BJP leader and former Union minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao said before the elections results, grand alliance parties particularly the TDP and TRS are giving contradictory statements while Left parties have stated that separate Telangana issue was not in the election manifesto of the grand alliance.
He alleged that Congress and TRS which had fought the elections in 2004 deceived the people of Telangana by not keeping their promise of carving out a separate state and now TDP and TRS are trying to cheat the people again which contested elections this time as grand alliance parties.
The recent statement of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy about the separate Telangana has further created confusion, he said. Reiterating the party's commitment for separate Telangana state in 100 days if NDA is voted to power, the BJP leader demanded both TDP and TRS to make their stand clear on this issue.
To a query, Rao said if they (TDP and TRS) are sincere to fulfill their promise there was no other alternative than supporting the BJP on the issue of Telangana.
