Accusing Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao of trying to 'instigate violence and rake up regional passions', the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday urged the Election Commission to initiate action against him.

Referring to the reported call given by Chandrasekhar Rao to demolish the Srisailam dam in Rayalaseema region if the government failed to supply water to Nalgonda district in Telangana region, the ruling party said it not only amounted to violation of election code but also tantamounts to waging a war against the state.

"While addressing an election meeting at Yadagirigutta in Nalgonda district on April 6, Chandrasekhar Rao incited violence and asked people to take law into their hands and demolish Srisailam dam if water is not supplied to Nalgonda district. This amounts to creating a rift among people of the two regions," TDP spokespersons C Ramachandraiah and AV Subrahmanyam alleged in a memorandum to the state chief electoral officer Narayana Rao.

Later addressing a press conference, Ramachandraiah said the TRS chief was "speaking the language of naxalites and deserved to be punished under the law". "Irrigation projects are public properties.

Asking people to demolish them reflects politics of perversion. Is it not a mockery of democracy to instigate people against an elected government?" the TDP leader asked.
