Tea prices shoot up at auctions after rains hit Assam, West Bengal

Estates in central Assam recorded between 4.50-6.50 inches of rainfall as against a normal rainfall of 1-1.50 inches in July.

Tea prices in auctions have increased after rains and floods in plantation regions of West Bengal and Assam, encouraging companies to be optimist about their gains.

Prices of CTC (crush, tear, curl) tea in Kolkata auctions are up by 4.18 per cent at Rs. 177.12 a kilo. Assam CTC is the largest beneficiary, as its prices have increased by by 13.84 per cent at Rs. 215.99 per kg. A similar trend was reflected in a Guwahati auction centre, where prices of Assam CTC tea was up by 4.45 per cent at Rs. 166.12 per kg.
