The Andhra Pradesh State Financial Corporation (APSFC) organised a meet here yesterday to propagate the cultivation of Ganuga (Pongamia) tree and the use of its oil as bio-diesel.
Senior officials from such diverse organisations as departments of tribal welfare, forests, rural development, AP Rural Livelihood Project, Nedcap, Oilseeds Research Organisation, Crida, IPE etc., advocated constitution of a full-fledged technology mission for undertaking the task of raising Pongamia trees and making it a viable commercial proposition.
The meeting, presided over by APSFC chairman M Gopalakrishna, also suggested that research be taken up simultaneously for extraction of various medicinal ingredients from the oil cake and maximising the same, stated an APSFC release here.
