Telangana Assembly seeks Centre's help on power crisis

A day-long debate on power crisis against the backdrop of a spate of suicides by farmers using agriculture pumpsets rocked the Assembly

BS Reporter Hyderabad
The Telangana legislative Assembly today unanimously passed a resolution seeking Centre's intervention in ensuring supply of 54 per cent of the state's rightful share in power generation of the undivided Andhra Pradesh as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act.

A day-long debate on power crisis against the backdrop of a spate of suicides by farmers using agriculture pumpsets rocked the Assembly.

While Telangana government argued that the supply-demand gap had widened with the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh denying supply of Telangana's rightful share, the Opposition Congress as well as the TDP tried to turn the tables on the government alleging inefficient handling of the situation.

In the end, the opposition parties joined the government in requesting the Centre to intervene in the matter and ensure the allocated share of power to Telangana.
