To be followed by a 2-day rail roko.

The ongoing agitation for a separate statehood to the Telangana region will enter into another phase on Thursday with the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) calling for a 48-hour bandh, which will be followed by a two-day rail-roko agitation.

Meanwhile, normal life was disrupted for the ninth consecutive day in the Telangana region on Wednesday on account of the indefinite agitation. Buses continued to be off the roads while educational institutions remained closed. Attendance in government offices continued to be thin.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders, Harish Rao and Nayani Narasimha Reddy, were arrested (and released later) when they staged a dharna in front of Bus Bhavan, headquarters of the state road transport corporation (RTC).

TJAC chairman, Kodandaram, along with TRS legislator KT Rama Rao, met state Congress president, B Satyanarayana, and requested him to present a true picture of what was happening in the state to the Congress high command in Delhi.

With the workers of state-owned Singareni Collieries continuing to participate in the general strike being held by all pro-Telangana outfits, there has been no production of coal by the company.

The RTC joint action committee has decided to hold rallies across the Telangana region on Thursday in protest against the corporation management terminating the services of contract workers for taking part in the strike.
