The Maharashtra home department has issued a showcause notice to former additional director general (state crime investigation department chief) T K Choudhari, based on the recommendations of the Mumbai High Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT) that is probing the multi-crore fake stamps and stamp paper scam.

He is the second senior police official after former commissioner of police RS Sharma to be issued a showcause notice.

Sharma was issued a similar notice days before he retired and subsequently was arrested by the SIT a day after he retired for several acts of omissions and commissions during the investigation of the scam.

A senior government official, confirming the issue of showcause notice told Business Standard: "The showcause notice was issued to Choudhari on the basis of the chargesheet against him submitted to the state home department by the director general of police (Subhash Malhotra) on Choudhari's role in effecting transfers of certain police officials during the investigations into the scam."
