Tension gripped Dhinkia village in Posco project site as the anti-Posco activists ransacked the houses and destroyed betel vines and other properties of some villagers who had approached the district administration expressing their support for the project.

About 22 pro-Posco families of Dhinkia village on Saturday had met the Jagatsinghpur district collector Narayan Jena and narrated how they are being harassed in their village. These villagers had sought protection of the administration.

After coming to know about this, the anti-Posco activists today attacked these villagers and ransacked their houses and destroyed properties including betel vines. The heads of the harassed families are reported to have left the village out of fear.

The Posco opponents, in a meeting in the village, have decided to ostracize the families and impose a fine of Rs 5000 on each of them, sources said.

Nearly 75 families of Patana and Gobindpur villages, who were ostracized by the anti Posco activists four years back, are yet to be resettled by the administration. It may be noted, out of 400 families in Dhinkia village, about 150 families are considered to be Posco supporters.
