TERI plans centre in West Bengal

Country's premier science and research institute, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is keen to set up a center in West Bengal, for which it has formally proposed to the state government for land inside the new township in Baruipur.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Environment Partnership Summit 2009 organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, R K Pachauri, director general of TERI said, “West Bengal had always been very close to my heart and I have got to learn that there is a whole new knowledge township coming up in Baruipur where a number of institutes are coming up, we are keen to have a presence here and set up our own center in West Bengal, for which we have proposed to the state government for a few acres inside the township. We hope to get a place there.”

 

Chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, responded, “TERI has always helped us in formulating policies to face any environmental challenge, we will be happy to provide land to the premier institute for the development of the state. We want TERI to come to our state and set up a knowledge center for the benefit of the state.”
