Textile to get IT-enabled infra support

The government would create four centres of excellence for technical textile, said Union Textile Minister Shankar Singh Vaghela at the Ficci Global Conference on Indian technical textile industry. These centres, meant to provide infrastructure support for technical textile industry, would be equipped with testing labs of international standards, training facilities and IT-enabled information centres. These labs would be assisted by IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Delhi. Technical textile finds application in various sectors like defence, healthcare, agriculture, automobiles, railways, construction, packaging, fire retardants etc. Vaghela said the government is also facilitating the formation of a development committee for technical textile.
