Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has called upon anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare to break his fast for a stronger anti-graft legislation. In a letter, Thackeray said, “The war against corruption that you wanted to start has already moved across the country. The fast is now taking a toll on your health. You should stop.”

Thackeray’s move comes at a time when hectic negotiations between the government and Anna were underway. The Shiv Sena patriarch urged Hazare to allow his supporters like Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia to continue the fight initiated by him for a strong Lok Pal Bill.

“In view of your deteriorating health, now end your fast. Even after that, the agitation can continue. After you end your hunger strike, let your associates, Kejriwal, Bedi, Sisodia and others can sit on hunger strike and the crusade will go on,” Thackeray said in his letter to Hazare.

His son and party executive president Uddhav Thackeray told reporters that the letter also mentioned about the support Hazare’s agitation was getting across the country.
