Tight security in Assam ahead of Ayodhya verdict

Tight security measures are in place in Assam with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi appealing all sections of the society to maintain peace and tranquillity in view of the Ayodhya title suit verdict today.

Besides police and paramilitary forces throughout the state to maintain law and order, army was also on alert in vulnerable areas, officials said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were imposed in several districts, including Kamrup (Metro) where Guwahati is located, Kamrup (Rural), Sonitpur and Cachar districts banning gathering of five or more persons, they said.

The state government has also prohibited bursting of crackers across the state for the next seven days, they added.

 

Gogoi has also directed all his ministers and district general secretaries of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee to camp in their respective districts today to ensure keep a check on untoward incidents following the verdict.
