Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced a slew of measures to boost the welfare of children and women in the state, allocating over Rs 240 crore for these measures.
In a statement on Monday, the chief minister said under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, nutritious food would be provided to children in the age group of two to six years. Noon-meals will be given to aged women who receive pensions.
“The amylase rich supplementary food will be provided for 300 days at an estimation of Rs 190 crore,” said the chief minister. The meals prepared for senior citizens will be distributed through child care centres.
In order to upgrade the Government Child Care centres, the government would allot Rs 47.61 crore for renovation and develop infrastructure facilities in 17,821 centres across the state. Further, various initiatives will be taken to develop the interest among the children especially in sports activities.
As part of this, fan and light facilities and other infrastructure services at the child care centres at an estimation of Rs 27.21 crore will be provided. To prevent the children from being afflicted with diseases due to pollution, the government will take several initiatives including child care toilets at an estimation of Rs 23.78 crore will be done, the chief minister said.
