Tn Among Top Contenders For Volkswagen

German automobile major Volkswagen AG, which has evinced keen interest in setting up a light commercial vehicle and car manufacturing plant in India, today said that Tamil Nadu would be one of the important locations which it would examine to set up its plant.

This was conveyed by Helmuth Schuster, the head of Indian Project Team, Volkswagen AG, Germany, to Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai today. Jayalalithaa assured Helmuth Schuster that the state government would lend necessary support for this German venture and welcomed the initiatives of Volkswagen in this regard. Schuster also indicated that the Volkswagen Trust was keen to support hospitals and also facilities for the children in Tamil Nadu. He also added the Trust would like to help projects initiated for street children.

 

Volkswagen AG, is Europe 's largest manufacturer of automobiles and the third largest manufacturer in the world. A high level team headed by Helmuth Schuster visited Chennai on the February 18 and 19. The technical team made visits to several industrial parks located in and around Chennai to look into the feasibility of setting up a prestigious light commercial vehicle and passenger car project in TN.
