TN govt urged to waive purchase tax on sugar

 It has said that such a move would help it tide over the difficult times faced by the sugar industry provide. It has also urged the state government to consider special cash incentive for sugar exports.

 Sisma, in its memoranda submitted to the state government, has asked for complete removal of purchase tax on sugarcane, or alternatively prune the purchase tax by half from the present Rs 905 per tonne of sugar .

 The industry is also willing to accept a proposal to defer the purchase tax by two years, by which time, it is confident of posting recovery.
