TN to set up 12 colleges with Rs 150 cr investment

Govt had already announced its plans to set up eight arts and science colleges from the fiscal 2013-14

The Tamil Nadu government would set up 12 engineering and arts colleges across the state under Anna University this year with an investment of around Rs 150 crore.

The government had already announced its plans to set up eight arts and science colleges from the fiscal 2013-14. On Monday, it said there would be an addition of four more arts and science colleges during the period.

It would set up infrastructure, including buildings, in Madurai and Coimbatore for Rs 30 crore and hostels in Madurai, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli. It would invest Rs 10 crore in Anna University constituent colleges in Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Tutcorin and Nagercoil, chief minister J Jayalalithaa informed the Assembly.
 

It has also set up regional centres in various places like Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirunelveli to monitor the operations of the colleges in the respective region. Besides, research and education centres would come up in Madras University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Bharathiyar, Bharathidasan University, Mother Teresa Women's University among others.
