Admitting mistake in handling the Nandigram issue, the CPI(M) has decided to launch an intensive campaign across the country to "bring out the truth" about Nandigram and to deploy its grassroots cadres across West Bengal to convince the peasantry about the need for industrialisation.

Briefing about the deliberations in the three-day CPI(M) Politburo and Central Committee (CC) meeting that concluded here on Monday, party general secretary Prakash Karat said the CC had noted that some mistakes had been committed in the handling of the affair, as stated by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

But, at the same time, attention should also be paid to the circumstances that led to the deployment of police forces.

Meanwhile, the all-party meeting to bring peace in Nandigram, failed to take off today after local BJP leaders and party activists vandalised the BDO office, where the meeting was scheduled to be held.
