A multi-grid, 3-dimensional urban air quality model for studying pollution levels would be a first-of-its-kind effort in the country, Teri and Toyota officials said today.

T S Panwar, senior fellow of Teri, said: "The 3-D air quality model to
be applied to Bangalore is designed to address multiple air quality issues like fine particles, ozone and acid deposition. It has multi-scale capabilities to assess regional contribution to urban air pollution."

The objective of the study, which commenced last month and is scheduled to end in March 2008, is to apply a model that could help in devising strategies for improving air quality in urban areas, the officials said.
