The Malaysia-India Business Council (MIBC) has urged small-scale builders, developers, consultants, architects and engineers to piggy-back on Malaysian companies in India to get jobs in the region.

They could also find the right partner for projects, or set up a company in India and look for jobs themselves, MIBC President and prominent businessman Krishnan Tan said.

Companies such as Khazanah, Petronas, IJM, Mudajaya, Maxis, Eversendai, Scomi, UEM and Sunway Group are active players in India's property, construction, power and telecommunications sectors.

"Companies have to familiarise themselves with local conditions such as political issues and how the banking sector works. The tender and legal documents and bureaucracy are similar to Malaysia and once you understand all these, there is the ability to enter the market quickly," Tan, who is also IJM Corp Bhd group managing director, said.

He added that there are currently big opportunities in India's $145-billion property sector. "The infrastructure market is also under supplied. The opportunities are not just for the big boys but smaller players as well."

MIBC with FICCI will host a two-day real estate and infrastructure forum in Chennai and Bangalore, targeting key executives from 40 Malaysian builders, engineers, consultants and architects.
