The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today said it has extended the last date for submission of comments by stakeholders on the use of eco-friendly equipment in the information and communications technology sector to July 15.

The teleocm regulator had earlier asked stakeholders to give their views on 'green telecom' by June 14.

Trai will prepare a consultation paper on the subject, as the government is committed to the use of eco-friendly equipment in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, it said.

"Some stakeholders have requested further extension of time for sending their comments. In view of this, the authority has decided to extend the last date of submission of written comments to June 15, 2010," Trai said in a statement.

Trai had sought the industry's views on issues like the need for a carbon credit policy for the telecom sector and methods to reduce the ICT industry's carbon footprint.
