While commemorating Jyoti Basu, the CPI(M) leaders were busy making an image of Basu who was a champion of democracy and human rights. The chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, today claimed that though Basu was incarcerated in prison during the Congress regime without any trial, but Basu as chief minister never put any political person the bars without trial.
Bhattacharjee was paying tribute to the late communist leader organised by the CPI(M) in Kolkata today. The Left leaders today took a pledge to stay united and follow the path shown by Basu in improving the lot of peasants and the working class.
“We have to follow the direction shown by Jyoti babu. We have to go ahead keeping in mind his thoughts and experiences,” Bhattacherjee said. CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said, “We have to take a pledge to follow the path shown by Basu who took the peasants and working people to the centrestage of Indian politics.” The condolence meetingwas not attended the TMC and the BJP.
In the condolence meeting, facts had to make way for unadulterated praise of the departed leader. During Basu’s chief ministership, TADA was applied in the state to suppress the GNLF movement and some people were arrested and thrown in the prison without any trial for long time.
