Accusing the CPI-M of attacking Opposition workers in West Bengal after the Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool Congress today demanded Centre's intervention by invoking Article 355 in the state.
"Over 20 TC workers were killed in post poll attacks by the CPI-M. Democracy is being trampled in West Bengal. Why is the Centre not invoking Article 355 in the state? State sponsored terrorism should be immediately stopped," Leader of Opposition
Partha Chatterjee told reporters after meeting Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
Article 355 ensures that the government of every state is carried on in accordance with the provision of the Constitution.
Chatterjee who led a TC delegation of MLAs and councillors to Raj Bhavan, asked the governor to take constitutional measures "to save the people".
He said Trinamool Congress has instructed its workers to maintain peace and not to take out victory processions.
The governor, earlier in the day, in a statement expressed concern over reports of post-poll political violence.
